Spring Put in Cooler, Hitless Against Tucson Saturday, May 14th , 2050 Fresno second baseman Steve Spring came into today's game against the Tucson Ocelot on a hot streak. He left on a cold one. The Ocelot did their jobs well, beating the Fresno Orange Sox, 11-1, and holding Spring hitless to snap his 25-game hitting streak. The 22-year-old second baseman had a few words to say after finishing 0-for-5, telling reporters only that he "came up short." "What Steve did was exciting and quite an achievement," said Orange Sox manager Joseph Winter. "It's tough enough to get one hit in this league, much less go 25 games in a row. I'm even more proud of the way he handled the press coverage. He never let the frenzy get to him or affect his play." Spring is currently hitting at a .283 pace with no home runs and 4 RBIs. |
