Widel Bangs Out 5 Base Hits
Wednesday, July 8th , 2048
Jason Widel exploded for a barrage of base hits at Ballpark of Atlanta.
The St. Louis first baseman had a field day in his team's 14-3 triumph over the Lansing Red Storm, finishing 5-for-6.
"My hitting philosophy is simple," he said. "I focus on just seeing the ball and I try to get a good pitch."
Widel must have focused at least 5 times and apparently got some good pitches, too, leading to one of his best days ever with the bat. Jason Widel hit a solo-shot off Cameron Elson in the 1st, struck out in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, singled in the 6th, doubled in the 8th and hit a two-run single in the 9th.
This season, Widel has posted a batting average of .317 with 26 hits in 82 at-bats, 7 home runs and 15 RBIs. He has also scored 14 runs, walked 4 times and compiled a .352 OBP.
