The home crowd had a good time watching the Brooklyn Knights and Kyiv Cossacks get after it.

Kyiv turned a good effort from starter Juan Valer into a win over the Brooklyn Knights at Kyiv Grounds. The final score was 5-0. The winning pitcher was Valer, now 3-3. He tossed 6.1 innings of 4-hit ball, while walking 4 and fanning 6.

The Cossacks got a big hit from left fielder Mike Bitzer. Facing Brooklyn pitcher Josh Deere in the bottom of the sixth, Bitzer pounded a 2-run double to center. His 21st double of the season put the Cossacks ahead, 3-0.

"We'll take some time to unwind," said Valer, "and then get after it again."

The win for the Cossacks lifted their record to 38-33.
