Starcher Touches All the Bases, Hits for Cycle
Wednesday, May 8th , 2052
It was a special day for Kevin Starcher at Spinners Grove -- the Georgetown Spinners second baseman hit for the cycle, getting every type of hit possible.
The 20-year-old Starcher racked up 1 single, 1 double, 1 triple and 1 home run to etch his name in the history books. It was all for naught, however, as the Spinners didn't win the ballgame, dropping the decision to the Laredo Diamonds, 11-9.
"He hit everything we threw," said Laredo manager Garret Welborn. "There was just no getting him out today."
For the game, he was 4-for-6 with 3 RBI and 2 runs scored.
"I'm glad for Kevin," Georgetown manager Wil Chicas said. "It's a once-in-a-lifetime thing and a nice feather in his cap. Would've been better if we could have won the game for him, too."
Speaking to the press after the game, Starcher said the key for his record-setting day was "just getting some good pitches to hit."
Kevin Starcher singled in the 1st, hit a solo-shot off Steve Freriks in the 3rd, hit a two-run double in the 4th, struck out in the 6th, tripled in the 8th and struck out in the 10th.
So far this year, Starcher has hit .349 with 5 home runs, 12 RBIs and 16 runs scored.
