Lyons on a Rampage, Hits for Cycle
Tuesday, June 21st , 2050
Mohan Lyons did everything he could for the Laredo Diamonds -- literally.
The 20-year-old second baseman hit a single, a double, a triple and a home run for the Diamonds, going for the cycle and helping them get past the Jefferson J-Hawks, 6-5, at Ballpark of Laredo.
"Yeah, I was some kind of hitter in this game," Lyons reflected later. "It was like all I had to do was close my eyes and swing the bat."
In a game headed for the record books, Lyons banged out 5 hits in 5 at-bats and totaled 2 RBI and 2 runs scored. Speaking with the press about the feat, he attributed it to "a lot of luck."
"A triple is so hard to hit," he said. "To just decide to get one in a game when you need it for a cycle, it's impossible. Usually something weird has to happen, the ball kicking past an outfielder or somebody falling down. There's a ton of luck in hitting for a cycle."
Mohan Lyons hit a solo-shot off Manuel Rivera in the 3rd, doubled in the 6th, singled in the 7th, tripled in the 10th and hit an RBI single in the 12th.
This year, Lyons is hitting .500 with 1 home run and 3 RBIs to his credit. He has gotten on base at a .542 clip and scored 5 runs.
