Medford Snaps Gibson Streak at 22
Wednesday, June 14th , 2051
The Georgetown Spinners lost to the Medford Axemen, 4-1, at Axemen Grove, but perhaps the bigger news was the end of Jim Gibson's 22-game hitting streak. The left fielder went 0-for-4 on the day.
"We felt if we could slow down Gibson, we would win the game," Axemen manager Steve Carver explained. "They really seemed to feed off his streak, so we tried to put more emphasis on shutting him down."
This year, Gibson is batting .329 with 4 home runs and 27 RBIs.
