Irene 5-for-6 for Laredo
Sunday, May 1st , 2050
It's not something you read about in the sports pages every day -- a 5-for-6 day. For many, it might come around only once in a career -- and for Salvador Irene, it came around today.
The 20-year-old right fielder scattered hits all over Outlaws Field to pace the 12-3 Laredo Diamonds victory over the Richfield Outlaws.
Richfield skipper Jimmy Cronin told reporters in the press room that "Irene deserves a hat-tip."
"He hit some good pitches against us," he said. "In fact, according to our scouting reports, Irene hit several that he is not supposed to be able to hit."
Salvador Irene grounded out in the 2nd, hit a two-run double in the 4th, singled in the 6th, walked in the 8th, singled in the 10th, hit a two-run home run off Jim Unknown in the 12th and hit an RBI single in the 12th.
Irene has a .222 average and a .371 on-base percentage for the year. He has picked up 16 hits, 2 home runs and driven in 8 runs.
