Vera Belts Bunch of Base Hits Friday, August 12th , 2050 It's not something you read about in the sports pages every day -- a 5-for-6 day. For many, it might come around only once in a career -- and for Franklin Vera, it came around today. The 21-year-old catcher scattered hits all over Ballpark of Colorado Springs to pace the 24-1 Can Tho Cobras victory over the Colorado Springs Generals. Colorado Springs skipper Collin Walker told reporters in the press room that "Vera deserves a hat-tip." "He hit some good pitches against us," he said. "In fact, according to our scouting reports, Vera hit several that he is not supposed to be able to hit." Franklin Vera singled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, hit an RBI single in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, singled in the 6th, walked in a run in the 7th, walked in the 9th and flied out in the 9th.
