Griffin Put in Cooler, Hitless Against Colorado Springs Saturday, June 25th , 2050 Late in the game, all eyes in Ballpark of Colorado Springs were on Eric Griffin as he stepped into the batter box. His 22-game hitting streak was on the line, and he had a zero in the hit column on the day. Sadly for Griffin, it was not meant to be -- the zero would stay and the streak would end. If there was a silver lining for Griffin, it was that his Rhome Rhavioli won the game anyway, stopping the Colorado Springs Generals by the score of 16-1. "Winning took some of the disappointment out of it," Griffin told reporters in the clubhouse. "Looking back on it, it was a great experience. Not too many players can say they had a hit in 22 straight games. It's something I will always remember." In 53 games this season, Griffin has compiled a .425 batting average with 94 hits and 12 home runs. He has also scored 53 times and knocked in 61 runs. |
