Red-Hot McDermott Scorches Better Mades Saturday, July 20th , 2052 The Galveston Gumdrops stopped the Grosse Pointe Better Mades by a score of 12-8 at Grosse Pointe Grounds, with the lion's share of the credit going to center fielder Doug McDermott. The 20-year-old had a career day, collecting 5 hits. "Every batter wants to have a quality at-bat every time he steps up to the plate," McDermott said later. "He wants to hit the ball hard." McDermott did just that in his 7 at-bats, much to the chagrin of the Better Mades. "Not much that I can say," offered Grosse Pointe manager Ubaldo Riba. "He just hammered the heck out of us." Doug McDermott singled in the 1st, singled in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, flied out in the 5th, hit an RBI single in the 6th, flied out in the 7th and doubled in the 9th.
