Great Stroke: Mendoza Gets 5 Hits
Sunday, July 17th , 2050
5 hits in a game is a rare thing, but Sao Paolo's Willie Mendoza made it happen against the Vanguard. Everything came together at the plate for the 26-year-old first baseman as he collected 5 hits in 6 at-bats -- and helped the Churrasco triumph, 17-7, at Rockets Ballpark.
"I'm just out there to try and help the team win," Mendoza said after the game, "I had some real good at-bats. I made good, solid contact and luckily no one caught 'em."
Willie Mendoza singled in the 1st, grounded out in the 3rd, hit an RBI double in the 4th, singled in the 6th, singled in the 8th and singled in the 9th.
This season, Mendoza has delivered 59 hits in 174 at-bats for a .339 average with 4 home runs. He is getting on base at a .416 clip and his totals also include 14 RBIs and 33 runs scored. This year Mendoza has played in 43 games.
