Defenders Pitching Ravaged by Vawter Thursday, May 22nd , 2053 It takes more than one player to win a baseball game - as proven by Matt Vawter of the Fresno Orange Sox. The Fresno right fielder gave it his all and dominated Hartford Defenders pitching at Defenders Ballpark, finishing with a great 5-for-5 line. However, when the game ended, the scoreboard showed the Defenders going home the winner, 8-6. "There's no point gloating about a 5-hit day in a loss," Vawter said. "A loss just means you should have done more. Maybe I should have hit 5 home runs instead." Matt Vawter singled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, hit a solo-shot off Sam Lassiter in the 6th, singled in the 7th and singled in the 9th. For the season, Vawter is hitting at a .280 clip with 5 home runs, 12 RBIs and has scored 17 runs. He has 30 hits, 9 walks and a .336 on-base percentage. View Boxscore |
