Omaha Beats Hamtramck as Hipp Throws 1-0 Shutout
Monday, May 3rd , 2049
The Hamtramck Paczkis manager was philosophical in the clubhouse following a shutout loss to the Omaha Steaks. The Paczkis were overpowered by Omaha starter Steve Hipp, who hurled his club to victory, 1-0.
"It was just one of those games -- shake it off and do better next time," Andy Russell said.
Over 9 innings, Hipp blanked Hamtramck on 5 hits with no walks and 6 strikeouts.
"I kept them off balance. I could tell a lot of them were late on fastballs because they were fouling them off. Once you see that, it sets them up for other pitches," Hipp said.
"I set them up, where if they chased one breaking ball, they were going to chase another one."
Hipp has a 3-1 season record so far. In 3 starts, he has fanned 22 batters in 28.1 innings with a 2.22 ERA.
