Red-Hot Ventura Cools Off Omaha
Sunday, June 2nd , 2047
The Baltimore Jaspers shut out the Omaha Steaks, 6-0, behind the strong pitching of Omar Ventura. Ventura surrendered only 5 hits in recording the complete-game victory, and struck out 4.
Following the last out, Ventura appeared to celebrate a little too boisterously for Omaha manager Jared Holt, who could be seen scolding the famously outspoken right-hander as the clubs left the field. Ventura's own manager then intervened with some words for his counterpart.
The Steaks skipper would not comment on the exchange but, at the Jaspers press conference, Ventura confirmed that it was regarding the celebration.
"He basically told me I was being a lousy winner," Ventura said.
"And I told him he was being a lousy loser," Baltimore manager Ruben Fernandez added.
This season, Ventura has a 9-2 mark in 12 starts with a 2.45 ERA. He has given up 70 hits in 88.1 innings, struck out 58 and issued 14 walks. Opposing clubs have compiled a .215 batting average against him.
