Lightner Rips 3 HR Friday, April 22nd , 2050 Vung Tau Vipers second baseman Jimmy Lightner sensed he was going to have a good day at the plate, but he still might have underestimated it a little. Prior to the start of today's contest with the Glendale Skeeters, Lightner told teammates he was sure he would hit a home run. He did -- three times. "During batting practice I really had my swing down pat," he recalled. "I felt some thunder in the lumber." The big day from Lightner pushed the Vipers past the Skeeters, 13-5. To go along with the homers, he collected 7 RBIs and scored 3 runs. "I was seeing good, feeling good and swinging good," Lightner told reporters after the game. Jimmy Lightner hit a three-run home run off Santiago Velazquez in the 2nd, struck out in the 4th, hit a solo-shot off Cory Eckenroth in the 6th, hit a three-run home run off Jose Valdes in the 7th and flied out in the 8th. So far this season, Lightner has recorded a .360 batting average with 18 hits, 7 home runs, 13 RBIs, 10 runs scored and a .411 OBP. |
