Matthews Slams 5 Hits for Santa Clara
Monday, May 25th , 2048
It's not something you read about in the sports pages every day -- a 5-for-6 day. For many, it might come around only once in a career -- and for Brian Matthews, it came around today.
The 23-year-old right fielder scattered hits all over Rockets Ballpark to pace the 8-7 Santa Clara Vanguard victory over the Walkerton Scarlet Knights.
Walkerton skipper Blake Johnstone told reporters in the press room that "Matthews deserves a hat-tip."
"He hit some good pitches against us," he said. "In fact, according to our scouting reports, Matthews hit several that he is not supposed to be able to hit."
Brian Matthews flied out in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, hit an RBI single in the 5th, hit a solo-shot off David Felix in the 8th, hit an RBI single in the 9th, walked in the 11th and hit an RBI single in the 12th.
So far this year, Matthews is hitting .296 with 4 home runs.
