Davis Blasts 3 into Bleachers Wednesday, August 10th , 2050 Portland Pickles first baseman Steve Davis almost did it all. He sent three shots out of the ballpark, scored 3 times and drove in 6 runs and had 3 hits in 5 at-bats. The one thing he could not do, however, was lead the Pickles to victory. The Eugene Exploding Whales escaped with the win, 7-6, despite being on the receiving end of the barrage from Davis. "I'd be lying if I said I didn't like hitting three homers, but losing takes a little glitter off the game," he admitted to BNN writers after the game. Steve Davis hit a two-run home run off Jeff Rabinowitz in the 1st, struck out in the 3rd, flied out in the 5th, hit a solo-shot off Dan Cyr in the 8th and hit a three-run home run off Vendelin Sivak in the 9th. "When someone hits three home runs, you put yourself in a tough position to win," said Portland manager Bryce DeMont. "We were lucky to win this one. I don't think it matters how hard you throw, especially in the CBD Triple A. If you leave a ball out over the plate to good CBD Triple A hitters, if they get a bead on you and you leave it over the middle, they're probably going to take a good hack at it." Davis is hitting .332 for the season with 14 home runs, 70 RBIs and 67 runs scored. He has 124 hits in 374 at-bats and played in 99 games. |
