Wasserman on Fire: Burns Eugene with 3 HR
Sunday, May 22nd , 2050
His swing was a thing of beauty. Three times Cody Wasserman swung the bat and three times he delivered a home run. It was an awesome sight to behold at Blue Raiders Ballpark, but to no avail, for as good as he was, the Eugene Exploding Whales were better.
The Kinsale Fisherman couldn't capitalize on the big game from Wasserman and dropped the contest, 6-5.
The mood in the Fisherman clubhouse afterward was subdued, with several players remarking that they had allowed the Exploding Whales to spoil the day for Wasserman.
"Some of the boys are beating themselves up about it," Kinsale manager Mike Cerullo said. "They know we win as a team and lose as a team, but it's hard to really put that idea into practice on a day when one of you was playing on such an obviously higher level."
In addition to the homers, Wasserman collected 5 RBIs and scored 3 runs.
"I got three pitches down the pipe and popped them," the Kinsale center fielder told reporters. "Today I was in a groove. Tomorrow I could just pop the same pitches up and go 0-for-3."
Cody Wasserman hit a solo-shot off Jeff Rabinowitz in the 1st, hit a solo-shot off Jeff Rabinowitz in the 3rd, hit a three-run home run off Jeff Rabinowitz in the 5th, grounded out in the 6th and singled in the 9th.
This year, Wasserman has socked 42 hits in 106 at-bats for a .396 average with 7 home runs. He is getting on base at a .467 pace and his totals also include 21 RBIs and 30 runs scored.
