Eugene Snaps Valerio Streak at 20 Friday, May 13th , 2050 The Thousand Oaks Rabbits lost to the Eugene Exploding Whales, 4-1, at Whales Field, but perhaps the bigger news was the end of Juan Valerio's 20-game hitting streak. The third baseman went 0-for-4 on the day. "We felt if we could slow down Valerio, we would win the game," Exploding Whales manager Shigeru Hayashi explained. "They really seemed to feed off his streak, so we tried to put more emphasis on shutting him down." A look at his current stats shows Valerio with a .400 average, 4 home runs, 16 RBIs and 11 runs scored. He has played in 27 games. |
