Avalanche End Martinez Streak Saturday, June 10th , 2051 The Philadelphia Avalanche got more than the 8-5 victory at Avalanche Ballpark -- they also put an end to the 20-game hitting streak of Nephi Threshers right fielder Willie Martinez by holding him without a hit in 3 at-bats. After the game, Martinez seemed more concerned with his team taking the loss than with the demise of his streak. "I had some great looks at some pitches that I should have hit," he said. "I missed some that I shouldn't have swung at. All in all, I wasn't much help with the bat today." Martinez is hitting .351 so far this season with 14 RBIs and 16 runs scored. He has 47 hits including no home runs, 13 walks and .412 OBP. |
