Suspensions Handed Out for Bench-Clearing Brawl Thursday, July 29th , 2049 Yesterday at Kyiv Grounds Andy Lester and Ray Barber got into each other's space and then into each other's face. They began to grapple and fell to the ground. That's when it boiled over into a full-fledged bench-clearing tussle between the Kyiv Cossacks and Portland Beavers. Reason finally prevailed as the umpires restored order. After much discussion, only the two major combatants were ejected from the game. Today the league office notified the ballclubs that Lester will have to sit out 4 while Barber would be given a 9-game suspension for their roles in the brawl. This season, Lester is batting .289 with 6 home runs. He has scored 48 runs and driven in 31. This season, Barber has claimed 1 save and registered a 3-4 record with a 3.72 ERA. He has 32 relief appearances spanning 36.1 innings and has struck out 33. |
