Duffy Holds Detroit Scoreless
Saturday, June 17th , 2051
The Detroit Pizzas manager was philosophical in the clubhouse following a shutout loss to the Portland Beavers. The Pizzas were overpowered by Portland starter Chris Duffy, who hurled his club to victory, 4-0.
"It was just one of those games -- shake it off and do better next time," Evan Compton said.
Over 9 innings, Duffy blanked Detroit on 4 hits with 3 walks and 9 strikeouts.
"I kept them off balance. I could tell a lot of them were late on fastballs because they were fouling them off. Once you see that, it sets them up for other pitches," Duffy said.
"I set them up, where if they chased one breaking ball, they were going to chase another one."
On his stats sheet for the year Duffy shows a 2-5 record, 13 starts, 83.2 innings, 75 strikeouts and a 4.84 ERA.
