Blast Off! 3 HR for Widel
Monday, August 26th , 2047
East Haddam Hyenas left fielder Jason Widel put on a dazzling display of power at Brooklyn Coliseum against the Brooklyn Knights. In the 8-3 Hyenas victory, Widel penned his name into the record books, slamming a trio of home runs in one of baseball's finest single-day efforts.
"He can hit them out anywhere, right, center, left, it doesn't matter," Brooklyn manager Enoch Tang said. "He's super strong and stays on the ball so well."
Along with his three home runs, the 29-year-old had 3 hits in 5 at-bats, 4 RBIs and 3 runs scored.
"Life will always throw you curves, just keep fouling them off," Widel said after the game, when asked about his hitting philosophy. "The right pitch will come, and when it does, be prepared to run the bases. Or trot around them, like I did today."
Jason Widel struck out in the 1st, struck out in the 4th, hit a solo-shot off Alejandro Rodriguez in the 6th, hit a solo-shot off Pete Gamblin in the 7th and hit a two-run home run off Pete Gamblin in the 8th.
This season, Widel is hitting .260 with 120 hits, 31 home runs, 89 RBIs, scored 74 runs and played in 117 games.
