Danny Rutledge worked with training staff to cook up a new pitch
Tuesday, March 16th , 2049
This offseason, Danny Rutledge has been hard at work on a new pitch that could redefine his effectiveness on the mound: the sinker. After seeking out new ways to diversify his offerings, Danny Rutledge worked with the team’s pitching coaches and data scientists to develop this new pitch from the ground up.
Starting from his motion and natural release point, the sinker was identified as a good pitch to try out. He then went through the basics of the grip, intent, and release. This was perhaps the longest part of the training, as Danny Rutledge really got a feel for the sinker. Finally, he met up with the team's data scientists, who made use of advanced biomechanical tracking and video analysis in order to help him refine the spin and movement of the pitch.
"I wanted to add something different to my mix," Danny Rutledge said. "The sinker has a real chance to change the outcome of at-bats, and it’s been a lot of fun working on it." Danny Rutledge believes the addition of the sinker will make him even more unpredictable and dangerous on the mound. Fans will be eager to see this new pitch in action the mound in the coming season.
