Blueberry Bulldogs Dealt 8-4 Loss by St. Louis
|
The St. Louis Archies put one in the win column with an opening day 8-4 triumph over the Sudbury Blueberry Bulldogs. The crowd at Team2 Ballpark watched Jim Stanton put on a fine performance. Spencer Hay, who finished 5th in the FL in innings pitched with 213.0 last year, was the winning pitcher. Over 5 innings, he allowed 1 run on 4 hits, with 6 walks and 7 strikeouts.
Oscar Florez had a big 2-run double for the Archies in the bottom of the fourth inning. With St. Louis leading 3-1 and runners on 2nd and 3rd, he got a sinker from 29-year old right-handed pitcher Danny Dudley and swatted a double to right-center. It was his 1st double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Archies ahead, 5-1.
"We're in a marathon, not a sprint," said Florez. "But I like how we're playing right now."
