The inspired effort of Detroit third baseman Jason Irish was not enough to prevent a loss, 5-3, to the Buffalo Buffalo. Irish was 4-4 with 4 singles. He scored 2 runs. Detroit is 4-5 after the defeat.
Buffalo used the timely hitting of Rey Pina to seize the win. The shortstop stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Buffalo on top, 4-3. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"It doesn't matter if you're 10 games over .500 or 10 games under, it feels good to win," Pina told the Buffalo Observer.
