Nicotra Blasts Archies, Cossacks Take Game 5, 10-3
The Kyiv Cossacks have closed some of the gap between themselves and the series-leading St. Louis Archies, winning, 10-3, at Kyiv Grounds. Cossacks designated hitter Chris Nicotra was 2 for 3 with a home run, a double, a walk, and was hit by a pitch. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2. The win cuts the deficit facing the Cossacks to 3-2 in the best-of-7 League Championship.

The Cossacks ran into trouble in the top of the fifth. The score was 1-0, Kyiv, with two out. St. Louis, with the bases loaded, had Alex Garcia at the plate. With a base hit, he could have changed the complexion of the game. Instead, he struck out and the Cossacks went on to win.

Game 6 is scheduled for Thursday at Team2 Ballpark in San Diego.
