Yinzers Raise Rally Flag, Beat Havana, 4-2
|
The Pittsburgh Yinzers picked up a win at PNC Park, knocking off the Havana Sugar Kings, 4-2. On the mound for Pittsburgh was left-hander Dave Reed. He played a key role in the triumph. The win went to Melvin Verdin in relief, making him now 5-3. Ricardo Moreno took the loss for Havana. Pittsburgh improves to 42-36 with the win. They lead their division by 4½ games.
Dwaine Byrne, who is a two-time All-Star, helped out the Pittsburgh cause in the bottom of the sixth inning with a run-scoring single. For the game, the shortstop went 2-3 with 2 singles and a walk, while scoring 2 runs.
"I was just trying to execute one pitch at a time," said Reed.
