League Championship Game 1 Victory for Beard and Detroit
The Detroit Pizzas started the League Championship in dominant fashion, blowing out the visiting Los Angeles Kings at Pizzas Ballpark by a score of 10-4 and securing an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 series. Pizzas right-hander Phil Beard turned in a fine performance. He threw 5.2 innings of 4-hit ball.

In the bottom of the second, Detroit shortstop Robert Escobedo had a productive at-bat. With the bases loaded and one out, Escobedo stroked a 2-run single to center. It made the score 3-0, Detroit. For the game, he was 2 for 3 with 2 singles, while adding 3 RBI.

"Phil -- his tempo and rhythm were good," said Pizzas manager Evan Compton. "He was the key to us winning."

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Pizzas Ballpark in Detroit.
