By a score of 2-1, the Eugene Exploding Whales have sealed a victory in the Round 1 over the Portland Pickles.

"We knew we would be in for a tough series and that's what we got," said first baseman Jody McCauley of the Exploding Whales, who was named the series MVP. "The Pickles knew how to battle and gave us a good test."

The next test for Eugene will come in the Round 2, after winning this series 4-2.

The Eugene Exploding Whales will play against the Nephi Threshers in the next round. Nephi won their series against the Phoenix Palisades 4 games to 1. The Round 2 schedule will be announced after the Round 1 finishes.
