The Kyiv Cossacks downed the East Haddam Hyenas, 3-1, at Kyiv Grounds. Stellar pitching by Zachery DeShields had a lot to do with it. The left-hander, who is tied for 2nd in the FL in wins with 8, handcuffed his opponent all game. In 7.1 innings, DeShields surrendered 2 hits, while striking out 6 and walking 5. He allowed 1 run. Cheong-won Hwang collected his 12th save.

The Cossacks got a big at-bat from second baseman Noah Abitia. For the game, Abitia went 1 for 3 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. In the bottom of the first, with a runner on 2nd, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 8th home run of the season gave Kyiv a 2-0 lead.

"I still think this team can play even better," DeShields told the Kyiv Observer.
