Aztecs Can't Finish, Lose 5-2
|
The San Antonio Aztecs got a superb performance from pitcher Danny Perez, but the New York Empire still won the game, 5-2. Perez threw 8.0 innings of 3-hit ball. The winner was New York reliever Adam Vaughn, now 1-5. The loser was Kang-cheol Bang. Jonathan Whittaker collected his 1st save.
New York used the timely hitting of Billy Maus to capture the win. The designated hitter stroked a 2-run double in the top of the ninth inning to put the Empire on top, 4-2. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but he made it count.
"We'll pop the top on a cold beverage and get back to work tomorrow," Maus said.
The Empire raised their record to 33-37.
