Porters Get Past Sudbury, 2-1
|
In a low-scoring game between the Dublin Porters and the Sudbury Blueberry Bulldogs, pitcher Juan Gonzalez was masterful on the mound. The Dublin right-hander spearheaded his team's 2-1 win. Joe Gorman picked up the win in relief for Dublin, while Nate Yarbrough took the loss. Tyrese Bunch earned the save for Dublin, his 16th of the year.
Had William Melnick not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Melnick hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 2-1, in favor of the Porters.
"Tip of the cap to the Porters," said Sudbury manager GM AllStar. "They played a good game."
The second-place Porters now have a win-loss record of 34-32.
