Martinez, Kings Too Much for Dragon Warriors
|
In a high-scoring contest between Los Angeles and Hanoi, designated hitter Dave Martinez was a difference-maker. Martinez, who finished 2nd in the AL in hits with 187 last year, distinguished himself in the 14-8 Los Angeles win. He was 1 for 1 with a home run and 4 walks, while scoring 3 and driving in 2. Jon Avery, who is tied for 2nd in the AL in innings pitched with 88.0, was the winning pitcher. Over 6 innings, he allowed 6 runs on 7 hits, with 1 walk and 7 strikeouts. Hanoi's current losing streak is now 4 games.
Xavier Blair had a big grand slam home run for the Kings in the bottom of the first inning. With Los Angeles trailing 4-2 and the bases loaded, he sized up a splitter from Andy Pittman, who finished 5th in the FL in wins with 14 in 2046, and punished it. The result was his 4th home run of the season, which put the Kings on top, 6-4.
"We'll pop the top on a cold beverage and get back to work tomorrow," Blair said.
