Arizona got a terrific performance from pitcher Ron Cook, but it wasn't enough to beat the Memphis Chicks. Memphis won the Desert Storm Stadium contest, 5-2. Cook threw 8.0 innings of 4-hit ball for the losing team. The Desert Storm, at 91-71, have lost 5 in a row.

The game was at a stalemate until first baseman Jim Garnet came to bat in the top of the ninth. Facing Arizona pitcher Terry Donohue, he hit a full count fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Memphis on top, 3-2.

"We'll put this win in our pocket and go after the next one," said Garnet.
