Buffalo Get Clutch Win Versus Havana
|
The Buffalo Buffalo spoiled a good performance by Havana third baseman Cesar Lopez, bumping off Havana, 5-4, at The Greenhouse. Lopez was 2 for 4 with a home run. He scored 2 times and drove in 2. The win belonged to Ian Lee in relief. His record improves to 2-0. Jorge Figueroa took the loss for Havana. Buffalo raised its record to 81-80 with the win.
Batting in the bottom of the ninth, 27-year old catcher Leon Alvarez had a real shot to win the game. Havana pitcher Jorge Figueroa was determined not to let it happen. But with one out, Alvarez hit a run-scoring single. The Buffalo had a walk-off triumph.
"We ground out the win," said Alvarez. "That's all that matters."
