Brooklyn Loss Tarnishes Veldhoven Performance
|
Fans watched the Detroit Pizzas and the Brooklyn Knights fight to the finish.
The Detroit Pizzas besoiled an otherwise fine performance by Brooklyn designated hitter Silvio Veldhoven by beating the Knights, 7-6, at Pizzas Ballpark. Veldhoven hit 2 home runs. He drove in 5 runs and scored twice. Jorge Figueroa came out of the bullpen to earn the win. The right-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 2 innings. His record now stands at 9-6.
Tyler Almond drew 1 walk in his only trip to the plate for Detroit. The 27-year old center fielder had a key at-bat in the bottom of the seventh. With two out and the bases loaded, he broke a 6-6 tie with a run-scoring walk off Zion Anthony. It was his 11th walk of the season.
"It was a nice win for our side today," said Pizzas manager Evan Compton. "Not perfect, but we'll take it."
The Pizzas now have a record of 82-77 with the win over Brooklyn.
