Portland pitcher Chris Hakes did his part in helping his team beat the Detroit Pizzas, 3-2. The right-hander kept opposing batters from doing too much damage. Portland raised its record to 79-72 with the win.

Luke Spradley went 2 for 3 with a double for Portland. The slugging left fielder had a key at-bat in the bottom of the seventh. With one out and runners on 1st and 3rd, he broke a 2-2 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Chad Edwards. It was his 98th RBI of the season.
