Portland beat Los Angeles on the strength of starting pitcher Ray Barber's fine effort. The left-hander led his team to a win, 4-2. The Beavers, at 81-68, lead by one game in their division.

Luke Spradley, who finished 3rd in the AL in home runs with 38 last year, had a direct impact on the outcome. Spradley contributed a 2-run home run in the top of the first inning to put Portland up, 2-0.

Portland manager GM admiralballtr8s was pleased with the team's effort. "Our guys played hard," he said.
