The Portland Beavers got a superb performance from pitcher Jason Scothorn, but the Los Angeles Kings still won the game, 5-4. Scothorn threw 7.0 innings allowing 2 runs. The setback makes Portland 80-68.

Dublin, Ireland-born Lugh Hughes came through in the clutch. In the bottom of the eighth, with runners on 2nd and 3rd and the Kings trailing 4-3, he hit a 2-run single to right-center to put Los Angeles on top.
