Kyiv turned a good performance from starting pitcher Zachery DeShields into a 5-2 triumph over the St. Louis Archies at Kyiv Grounds. DeShields got the win, improving to 13-11. He gave up 7 hits and walked 5 over 8 innings. He allowed 2 runs. After today's action, Kyiv sits at 67-74, while St. Louis falls to 84-55.
William Melnick had a big 2-run home run for the Cossacks in the bottom of the first inning. With Kyiv leading 2-0 and a runner on 3rd, he sized up a sinker from two-time All-Star Nate Edmondson and punished it. The result was his 20th home run of the season, which put the Cossacks on top, 4-0.
"We did a lot of really good things and it was a good win," said Cossacks manager Boris Lahutin.
