John Hoover, who finished 3rd in the AL in wins with 14 in 2037, was locked in. The right-hander led the Havana Sugar Kings to a 5-3 win against the Arizona Desert Storm at Sugardome II. The winning pitcher was Hoover, now 11-9. He tossed 8.1 innings of 4-hit ball, while walking 3 and fanning 9. Kurat Feyzioglu converted his 27th save in 31 tries.

Cesar Lopez hit a 2-run double off Ron Cook in the bottom of the sixth, which put the Sugar Kings in front, 2-0. In addition to the double, Lopez had 2 singles, while going 3 for 4.

"I had pretty good command out there," said Hoover.

The Sugar Kings now have a record of 65-73 with the win over Arizona.
