Thanks in large part to left fielder Juan Mercado, the St. Louis Archies beat the Havana Sugar Kings, 10-1. Mercado was 3-4 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk. He scored 3 times and drove in 2. The winning pitcher was Mike Ricketts. He's now 4-6. He went 9 innings, allowing 1 run on 7 hits for the Archies. The first-place Archies, at 85-51, now lead their division by 10 games.

St. Louis won the game in part because of Alex Garcia. The second baseman ripped a 3-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Archies ahead, 10-1. For the game, Garcia had 1 double and 1 home run in 5 at-bats.
