Memphis Downed, 7-3, by Blueberry Bulldogs
|
Josh Deere, who finished 4th in the FL in on-base percentage with .396 in 2046, was locked in. The right-hander led the Sudbury Blueberry Bulldogs to a 7-3 win against the Memphis Chicks at Russwood Park. Luis Espinoza, who is tied for 2nd in the FL with a 1.03 WHIP, was the winning pitcher. Over 8 innings, he allowed 3 runs on 5 hits, with 1 walk and 2 strikeouts. Eric Barone picked up the save for Sudbury, his 20th of the year.
Sudbury took a 5-3 lead on Deere's 24th home run of the season. The 2-run home run, which he hit off Bob Currell in the top of the eighth, propelled Sudbury to the win.
"If I go out there and help the team win, that's all you can do," said Deere.
The third-place Blueberry Bulldogs hiked their record to 66-69.
