The Detroit Pizzas withstood an impressive performance by Arizona pitcher Jay Marshall to defeat the Desert Storm, 6-4, at Desert Storm Stadium. Marshall came in in relief and pitched to 20 batters. Detroit pitcher Nate Spinks got the win, upping his record to 7-7. Josh Kern got the loss. Detroit improves to 75-58 with the win. They lead their division by 2½ games.

Detroit used a clutch at-bat from Jason Irish to capture the win. The third baseman hammered a grand slam home run in the top of the third inning to put the Pizzas ahead, 6-0. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a humdinger.

"Winning makes the heart grow fonder -- for more winning," said Irish, cracking a smile.
