Both teams had their chances, but the Detroit Pizzas eventually prevailed.
The Detroit Pizzas withstood a fine game by Havana third baseman Kevin Mars at Pizzas Ballpark, to upend the Sugar Kings, 4-3. Mars went 2-4 with a home run and a double. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Josh Johnson earned the save for Detroit, his 33rd of the year.
The Pizzas got a big at-bat from left fielder Zack Hauger. For the game, Hauger was 2 for 3 with a double and a walk. In the bottom of the fourth, with a runner on 2nd, he stroked a run-scoring double. His 12th double of the season gave Detroit a 4-3 lead.
Hauger told a Detroit Chronicle reporter that he was "satisfied" with the win.
The victory gives Detroit a record of 73-57.
