Beavers Get Past Los Angeles for 5-4 Win
|
Eric Heckman had a good game, but he could not keep the Los Angeles Kings from falling, 5-4, to the Portland Beavers at Sportsman's Park. The Los Angeles second baseman was 4 for 5 with 4 singles, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once in the loss. Victor Velasco picked up the win in relief for Portland, while Eric Barone took the loss. Tony Orellana picked up the save for Portland, his 28th of the year.
Luke Spradley was 1 for 5 with a home run. He drove in 2 runs and scored once for Portland. With no one out and the game tied in the top of the ninth inning, Spradley, who led the AL in extra base hits with 86 in 2049, had a clutch at-bat. Facing Los Angeles hurler Eric Barone, he grounded out, driving in 1 run to give the Beavers a 5-4 lead.
"We put a lot of pressure on ourselves," Spradley told a Portland Gazette reporter. "Sometimes we just need to relax."
The last-place Beavers hiked their record to 53-71.
