Archies Beat Blueberry Bulldogs, 4-1
|
The St. Louis Archies downed the Sudbury Blueberry Bulldogs, 4-1, at Bulldogs Ballpark. Stellar pitching by Spencer Hay had a lot to do with it. The right-hander, who finished 2nd in the FL in wins with 16 last year, handcuffed his opponent all game. The winner was Hay. He threw 7.0 innings of 5-hit ball. The loser was Josh Freeland. Jesus Gutierrez earned his 35th save in 38 chances.
The result might have been different, had it not been for four-time All-Star Alex Garcia. Garcia had a 2-run double in the top of the seventh inning to put the Archies ahead, 4-1. For the game, Garcia had 1 double and 2 singles in 5 at-bats.
"Spencer is tough when he's hitting his spots," said St. Louis manager Terry Schneekloth.
By defeating Sudbury, the first-place Archies improved to 80-43.
