Blend Sizzles -- Smokes Claws for 5 Hits
|
A jubilant Michael Blend joined the postgame press conference at Ballpark of Colorado Springs to offer some unusual words of encouragement -- for the Cork Claws pitching staff he had just vanquished.
"It may not have looked like it," said the Colorado Springs Generals center fielder, "but I saw some awful good pitches today. If luck hadn't been on my side it might have turned out a lot different."
That would not have been the conclusion of anyone who saw his dominant 5-for-5 hitting performance, which led to the 8-6 Generals win.
"He made it look easy," said John Williams, manager of the Claws. "We never figured out what to do with him. Obviously."
Michael Blend hit a solo-shot off Justin White in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, singled in the 7th and singled in the 8th.
This season, Blend is swinging the bat at a .418 pace. He has hit 12 home runs and scored 77 times, while driving in 57. His on-base percentage is .479 and he has played in 75 games.
