Cossacks Take Down Archies, 6-4
The Kyiv Cossacks had to overcome a big game from St. Louis designated hitter Juan Mercado to leave Team2 Ballpark with a victory. And they did, winning, 6-4. Mercado was 4 for 6 with a home run and 3 singles, while scoring 2 times. Jimmy Gold earned the win in relief. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2 innings. He upped his record to 3-5. Kyiv is in second place in the Federation League Knuckleheads Division with a record of 27-25.

Kyiv used the clutch hitting of Lorenzo Chavez to capture the win. The first baseman drilled a 2-run home run in the top of the 11th inning to put the Cossacks ahead, 6-4. It was his only hit in 2 at-bats, but it was a big one.

"Exciting game to play in," said Chavez. "Getting the win makes it even better."
